The ACHE of Massachusetts chapter is thrilled to announce our FIRST in-person chapter event since November 2019. Please join us for “Beyond Disruption: Healthcare for the Future, Redesigned and Reimagined” – ACHE of MA’s Spring Healthcare Summit, which will be held on Thursday, June 9th, 2022 at the Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, MA. We expect a very strong turnout of healthcare leaders and executives from around the region… an incredible networking opportunity we have so missed these past two years!

This all-day conference will be broken up into two exciting sections, with Dan Gebremedhin, MD kicking off the morning with a keynote presentation.
- The morning panel following Dr. Gebremedhin’s presentation will focus on disruptive care delivery models, and will feature VillageMD, Somatus, and Eternal Health, who are at the forefront of healthcare innovation. We will dissect what the future of healthcare will look like, discuss opportunities for delivery model disruption, and learn what key players are doing today.
- The afternoon has been designed to give you practical takeaways and a toolkit you can implement within your organization. Tier 1 Performance Healthcare, will guide us through an interactive session on Empathy-Centered Design. Then, our afternoon panel, will focus on how healthcare providers are collaborating and partnering with disruptors to implement innovation and respond to the need for new care models. Executives from CVS Health’s Enterprise Virtual Care, Baystate Health’s Digital Innovation Team, TechSpring and UMass Memorial Health’s Hospital-at-Home will discuss how they bring innovation, disruption and intentional design to their organizations.
Both AM and PM sessions are worth 1.5 Face to Face credits, and 2 Qualified Education credits will be awarded.

- 10:00am-11:30am: Face to Face Panel Session: Disruptive Innovation in Healthcare Delivery, 1.5 Face to Face Credits
- Disruptive innovation, a term coined by Harvard professor Clayton M. Christensen, is a transformative business model that leverages technology to help focus on making products and services more accessible and affordable. In healthcare delivery, disruptive innovations have the potential to decrease costs while improving both the quality and accessibility of care. Disruptive innovations enable new applications and changes in behaviors. The current thinking with many innovators is a belief that a host of disruptive innovations would have wide implications for payers by shifting payment models to reward precision diagnostic tests and abilities of providers. Several current disruptive innovations like retail clinics, telemedicine, medical tourism, and point-of-care medical payments could make a major difference in how health care is reshaped in the near future. This panel will focus on the role of innovation in the medical marketplace and examples of disruptive innovations that will change lives in health care.

1:00pm-2:15pm: Breakout Session, Powered by Tier 1: Disruption Starts with Empathy-Centered Design – 1.0 Qualified Education
- Simple mindset and language shifts go a long way in changing the care we provide. Participants will gain a new mental framework for reimagining how to effect and apply change; process topics with their teams; and begin to more deeply understand which moments can be designed to create joy and alleviate anxiety for caregivers, patients and their families.
- 2:15pm-2:30pm: Afternoon Networking Break
- 2:30pm-4:00pm: Face to Face Panel Session: Consumer Focused Health Care – 1.5 Face to Face Credits
- While many healthcare organizations recognize that consumer-centered healthcare is important, very few are following through on those priorities with innovative and effective strategies. Patients are increasingly choosing less expensive and easier to access options than traditional providers. While traditional providers are working to better engage consumers and compete in this new landscape with more and different competitors, there are many challenges. This panel discussion will lay the foundation by defining what “consumer focused healthcare” is, why it is important, and why it is so difficult to transition to a consumer-focused model, and explore some innovative and effective strategies.

Keynote: Dan Gebremedhin, MD
Dan is a Partner at Flare Capital Partners, where he has led investments into and sits on the Boards of Somatus, Eden Health, Oui Health, Votive Health and Elektra Health. Dan was a practicing Internal Medicine Physician at the Massachusetts General Hospital and had a Faculty appointment as an Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School from 2010 until 2019.
Morning Panelist: James J. Agnew, FACHE

Constantinos (Taki) Michaelidis, MD, MBA, MS is an internal medicine physician by clinical training and practices as a virtual home hospitalist in the UMass Memorial Health (UMMH) Hospital at Home program where he is medical director and faculty in the Program in Digital Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

Dr. Milford is a practicing internal medicine physician and an experienced executive who is responsible for leading the delivery of the virtual product portfolio across CVS Health, including seamless, omnichannel virtual care solutions that deliver meaningful results for both consumers and providers.
Afternoon Moderator: John Polanowicz
John Polanowicz is a seasoned healthcare professional with over thirty years of leadership experience in the industry. He currently serves on the board of Prosperity Behavioral Health, a private-equity backed company that provides multiple services to providers in the behavioral health space. He also serves on the Veteran’s Advisory Board of Myomo Health, the manufacturer of a powered orthosis (brace) that helps patients regain function in arms and hands paralyzed by neuromuscular disease or injury.
